The Point Arena Lighthouse is thrilled to welcome back the Moonlight Day of the Dead on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This special community event is the presentation of the Pacific Community Charter High School (PCCHS) students and faculty who are also involving other area schools. First presented at the Lighthouse November 3, 2017 this special event included Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) inspired artwork created by the Point Arena High School (PAHS) and PCCHS students. They were completely responsible for the concept, coordination, publicity, installation presentation and hosting of this community event. Although it was pouring rain that night over 250 guests still came out to experience this unique celebration.
For this year’s Moonlight Day of the Dead PCCHS faculty members Maria Elena Biaggi and Jen Kettering are working with their students to present a unique art installation and joyful celebration of Dia de los Muertos traditions. They plan on coordinating with PAHS, Pacific Community Charter Elementary School, Point Arena Elementary School, Manchester Elementary School, Horicon School and Kashia Elementary School to also participate and contribute to the event. Some of the planned elements of the event include:
- Dia de los Muertos themed student art
- Community Altar
- Traditional music
- La Catrina
- Hot chocolate and snacks to raise money for school field trips
- Tours of the Lighthouse Tower
More information and details will be added to this page as we get closer to the date. Also watch for promotions created by the students such as posters, Facebook and Instagram posts, local newspaper articles, local radio station announcements, etc.
